However, with the promise of a new head of middle school, I hope that this will change. LCDS both encourages both the arts and sports which I love. It is ideal for children who learn in the traditional rote method. Anecdotally, boys seem to struggle the most. A recently remodeled campus boasts greater learning opportunities in science and art. The school is highly focused on aptitude tests and fund raising. Lower grade teachers seem to be more open to different learning styles--not as much in middle school grades. I was surprised how difficult it was to get into a public school to visit classes, etc. Not at Lancaster Country Day School. They opened the school for us to visit classes, tour the school with a student or ask put us in touch with other parents. The school has turned out to be everything we've wanted for our children: great academics, caring faculty and nurturing environment, small classes...and no teaching to the test! My children have blossomed.
