The drawings I have placed here are similar to the 36 drawings I am drawing (with my computer--to gain the perfection I want) which will become part of "THE CITY BLOCKS PROJECT" . I have been working on this set of drawings since 1975. My progress has been slow. With the invention of home computers I am now able to make these drawings next to perfect. I have now finished many buildings and even a few individual blocks. If one was able to (and I found one who was) draw a line through the middle of a city from one end to the other end flatten every thing on one side of the line and in no way even come close to disturbing any thing on the other side of the line - the real "life" of a city would be revealed. Cities grow in ways that are not always planned. "The use of a block is not always its intended function". Before the invention of the pc I had intended to draw these blocks on my drafting table. That would have been frustrating and time consuming. The pc drawings allow me the freedom to draw anything I want without the fear of spilling my ink or making some other costly mistake on a drawing. Each individual drawing will be printed with a width of 36 inches (approx.) The individual drawings will all use the same scale because each drawing starts out with the same basic bare block. They will all have the same width. I based the size on the Chicago block, i.e. each block is 660 feet wide from the middle of each cross street to the middle of the next cross street. Six hundred and sixty feet is one eighth of a mile. I squeeze 660 feet into 36 inches or less. The height of each drawing depends on the buildings on that block. I have run out of space so I must quit. If you have any more questions about my blocks feel free to email me. lesrohacek@hotmail.com
