National Register of Historic Places for Lancaster, Pennsylvania

 

Lancaster Pennsylvania was developed by English shires. The civilized Englishmen carved the backwoods. William Penn was the founding father in 1683. Eventually, the town grew enormously so constables became a necessity for peacekeeping sake.

 
Lancaster is located near the Conestoga River. Lancaster is within the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. It is certainly an agricultural area with livestock, poultry, grains, apples and dairy products. Lancaster’s Central Market is in the heart of downtown and is the country’s oldest continuously operating farmer’s market.

Lancaster, Pennslyvania is noted for its ventures into aluminum products, medical equipment, automotive parts and fine food products. Franklin and Marshall College are located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Plus, Lancaster is the home of Amish and 1709 Mennonite communities. In 1777, Lancaster served as the meeting location for the Continental Congress.

 
Robert Fulton was born near Lancaster. It was also the home of President James Buchanan. Lancaster, Pennsylvania annually celebrates the Turkey Hill Ice Cream Festival and Trees Galore. Plus, Easter Fun Days offers fun games, good food and an Easter Hat Parade. Other special events include Long’s Park Holiday Light Show, Fa La La Lancaster, Sheep Shearing Days, Herb and Garden Faire and Countdown Lancaster. Churchtowne was founded in 1817 and served as a station on the Underground Railroad, and was also the center of spiritual renewal for free African-Americans who lived in the Lancaster community. There are numerous Houses of Worship in Historic Lancaster that provide stories and structures of eight neighboring 18th and 19th century churches.
